Richard Butchins is an award-winning filmmaker, presenter/reporter, writer and artist. He uses his own experience as a disabled person to produce and present work which addresses disability through arts and current affairs programming, and in his own personal art practice.

Richard’s credits as a presenter and reporter include The Disordered Eye (BBC Four), Dwarfs In Art: A New Perspective (BBC Four), Panorama: The Million Pound Disability Payout (BBC One), Dispatches: Landlords From Hell (Channel 4), Dispatches: The Truth About Disability Benefits (Channel 4), Driven (Channel 4) and the award-winning, The Last American Freak Show (More 4).

Richard was named as Journalist Of The Year at the 2022 Scope Disability Equality Awards. He has also been nominated for a British Journalism Award by the Press Gazette – the winners will be announced in December 2022.

Richard is an accomplished producer and director. His credits include Targeted: The Truth About Disability Hate Crime (BBC Two), various films for Channel 4’s Dispatches strand (Witness Intimidation Revealed, The Great Benefits Scandal, NHS Undercover, Britain On Benefits and Britain On The Sick) and Panorama: Nursing Homes Undercover (BBC One).
